So maybe that's why I didn't get hired at the Telefund...

Today I had to call a long list of our reps and verify that they will be attending our conference tomorrow. Nervous-making, for sure. Not only do I not like making phone calls, I don't like making phone calls when people are listening to me so they can ridicule me when I'm off the phone.

A rude awakening:

Me: HiI'mfromCommonwealthcallingtoconfirmthatDonnawillbeattendingBasic
Trainingtomorrow.

Woman with obvious hearing problems: I'm sorry I couldn't understand a word you just said.

Still, I'm not going to admit that my parents were right. Imagine what life would have been like for the guy who did Matchbox cars commercials if people had told him to speak more slowly.

Work: It's not all about the free coffee.

My parents imparted a wealth of advice to me for my first job. The most important of which - the one that came with an article - was not to dress like a slut around the office. With a newspaper clipping of Ally McBeal in hand to illustrate her point, my mom told me that while one might think a mini-skirt and a deep V-neck will help you rise to the top, that is "tv" and not "real life." And we are Catholic. Ashley, please don't dress like a slut at work.
